Written by autistic author Robyn Steward, this is a detailed guide for young people of all genders aged 9 to 16 on the basics of menstruation. Created by autistic people but applicable to all types of brains.
The author has conducted research on the experience of menstruation as part of her role as Honorary Research Associate at UCL and had her work peer reviewed by medical professionals.
The book is written in such a way that a person of any gender will feel comfortable, and reduces anxiety surrounding periods. It offers direct advice on what periods look and feel like and how to manage hygiene and pain. Images can be hidden using flaps until the reader is ready to view them and there are step by step photos of how to change pads and tampons, menstrual cups and cloth pads.
